He then attended Columbus Vocational Tech in Columbus Georgia where he received a degree in Tool and Die Technology in September 1969. He was called names by the whites and was told that he would never graduate from this school, however, God spoke to him to have compassion and not to treat people the way he was being treated and this is when his life changed because God turned the hearts of the students and teachers to reach out and assist him in getting his degree. He said that his favorite bible verse is John 15: 15-16: " Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. "

He is the Senior Pastor of Hartford United Methodist Church located in Senoia, Georgia and is currently serving by example and committed to the principals of Christ in the most forgotten area of Outreach and evangelism to the down trodden and poor in spirit for six years as of June 14, 2010. He was inspired by the Holy Spirit to initiate a Second Chance Ministry for the lost children of God that need to dedicated or give their life to Christ and become disciple in the Kingdom of God.His outreach and evangelism ministry began in 1989 after he was in a car accident that left him debilitated with a back injury.
He heard the voice of God telling him to feed His sheep and after he was miraculously healed from his injuries, the Holy Spirit directed him to the Mary Brenan United Methodist Church located on Sylvan Road, in Atlanta Georgia, which is now called Impact UMC. During that time, the youngest member of the church was sixty-five years old and he literally became the maintenance personnel for the members of the church because they trusted him. This was the birth of the Second Chance Ministries it consisted of painting, lawn care and overall management of their property. The responsibilities were numerous and he had to hire additional staff to provide these services. The employees knew that Pastor Dean cared for them and wanted to see them become productive in society. Therefore, they would listen to the word on the job and many of them would come to church and successfully returned to the workforce, some as addiction counselors and other para-professionals. Pastor Dean is committed to the service of Christ and after twenty-seven years, he continues to accept the call to the ministry as a member of the North Georgia Conference United Methodist Church. He has a beautiful church family who are partners and laborers in the vineyard who work tirelessly in building the Kingdom of God. He shares the celebration with his members in receiving the Gospel Choice Award for 2016.
